Certificate in the Use of Clinical Hypnosis
Level 1 on the International Diploma Programme

This course provides one of the most effective foundation courses in Clinical Hypnosis available today. It is introduced to Singapore by the LCCH and the Tan Tock Seng Hospital.

The course is open to both medical and healthcare professionals. In addition, many future health care professionals take this hypnotherapy training course as their introduction into the professions in the caring industry.

The core hypnotherapy curriculum includes ten hypnosis induction methods, techniques, depth of hypnotic trance, management of the hypnotic states, understanding contra-indications for hypnotherapy and the use of hypnotic suggestion along with safe ethical practice. (See Certificate syllabus)

The hypnotherapy training course also provides an excellent basis for self-empowerment skills. Many students will be interested to explore the nature of hypnosis and to develop these skills for their own use. Some of the personal benefits are the ability to use self-hypnosis effectively, developing mental and physical well-being, relaxation, stress management, ego strengthening and installing good habits.

The course is taught over a series of weekends covering 80 contact hours. Each weekend introduces a module with ample time provided during both the weekend and the tutorials for students to practice the techniques introduced and to assimilate the new skills.

The objective of this part of the training is that you learn how to become successful at the induction, management of hypnotic states and the implications of the theories and laws surrounding hypnosis and suggestion. It provides the foundation of knowledge necessary in becoming a competent and ethical clinical hypnotherapist.

The four lecturing weekends of the course are designed to provide a sound introduction to hypnosis. Students will gain a foundation of knowledge as an aid to the eventual practice of hypnotherapy. Also important is to benefit personally from the practice of hypnosis and experience of hypnotic states. There is a limited amount of suggested reading and written work which is designed to help the student success.

The Certificate programme also introduces additional material such as lectures on the nervous, digestive and cardiovascular systems, psychological theories. Students also required to cover the module on ethics which is presented by our medical personnel. This course does not ask participants to delve too deeply into diagnostic routines, rather the emphasis is given to recognition of conditions in which hypnotherapy may be contra-indicated.

An important element of the course is that, students are expected to acquire skills which are directly relevant to improving the quality of life for themselves and those around them.

Successful completion of level 1 Certificate in the Clinical Use of Hypnosis is the minimum requirement for entry onto the Diploma. Once completed the student is entitled to apply for a place on the Diploma Course.

Eligibility

Whilst the Certificate (level 1) programme is particularly useful for people engaged in the ‘caring professions’ and of course health-care professionals, medical doctors, teachers, counsellors and social workers many students also find this course useful for their own personal development.

For this reason the LCCH entry requirement is based on the system called Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning (APEL). This system recognizes that whilst some people may feel that a qualification in psychology is an advantage, or perhaps provides an edge in the field of clinical hypnosis, this is in reality only a small part of the learning curve. One of the important requirement in becoming a competent hypnotherapist is the students with a genuine interest in clinical hypnosis. For this reason the LCCH maintain the interview system as the most effective selection criteria.

The LCCH requires that each candidate demonstrates interest, enthusiasm and life experience which is appropriate to the objectives of the course. Students will also be asked to attend for an interview. This in addition to a requirement for two referees along with the details of the students GP and identity number is the minimum requirement for the course.

The Certificate In the Use of Clinical Hypnosis has been developed over several decades and based on both research and practice by the LCCH and clinical hypnotherapists. It has over the last 25 years enabled many students to graduate successfully into the Diploma programme. Many LCCH students are now in successful clinical practice and in fact some have returned to lecture for the LCCH.

Level 1 is probably the most comprehensive introduction to clinical hypnosis available anywhere in the world today. It provides a complete course - in it’s own right – it has been designed to provide both a powerful “stand alone” course in self-improvement techniques for individuals who perhaps do not wish to take their studies any further. It also the provides knowledge and expertise vital for those people wishing to progress into a new career.

LCCH Teacher Training

The LCCH has always maintained a special relationship with students both, past and present. Master classes maintain the high standards of LCCH graduates and ensure that your hypnotherapy training is up to date. Past graduates keep in contact with the college twice a year through the LCCH News. In addition, the LCCH centers provide a center of assistance for that difficult case and for clinical supervision. Help is always on hand and only a telephone call or email away.

The hypnotherapy training syllabus has been designed to present the course material in as interesting and informative a way as possible. All lecturers are successful hypnotherapy practitioners and are also often involved in hypnosis research and have expertise in particular areas of hypnotherapy. Each course combines a number of different lectures, so that students benefit from the experience of seeing material presented in a number of approaches. This provides the widest experience of different styles and application in the field of clinical hypnosis and provides a comprehensive understanding to clinical hypnosis.

The LCCH is very supportive of hypnotherapy graduates from the LCCH who wish to train and become part of the teaching faculty of the LCCH. On-going training in presentation and information gathering skills is given by members of our Faculty, so that graduates can progress through training as supervisors, tutors, and sometimes into positions as lecturers.
